ScriptE for Mac: Character Management and Breakdown Reports

OPEN THE CHARACTERS MENU

1. Click "Script"

2. Click "Characters"

RENUMBER CHARACTER FROM CHARACTER DETAILS MENU

3. Double click on the character you want to renumber

4. In the # box, enter the new character number. [[Enter]]

Alert: ALWAYS READ POP UPS!

9 times out of 10, a pop-up means that what you are about to do is something you cannot undo.

Make sure that you select the right response!

5. Click "Swap Numbers"

6. The character number will have been updated. Close the character details window.

7. Repeat renumbering steps as needed.

DRAG AND DROP TO RENUMBER CHARACTER

8. Click on the character you want to move.

9. Drag the character up or down and hover between the characters you want to place it. This can be a bit finnicky.

Alert: ALWAYS READ POP UPS!

9 times out of 10, a pop-up means that what you are about to do is something you cannot undo.

Make sure that you select the right response!

10. Click YES if you wish to place the character here.

ADD CHARACTERS

Tip: ScriptE will automatically import all characters that have lines in the script. If you have characters that have no lines, you need to add them manually.

11. Click the PLUS SIGN.

12. Enter the character name. Click SAVE.

DELETE CHARACTERS

Alert: You can only delete characters that do not have any scripted dialogue.

13. Click on the character you want to delete.

14. If the character has no scripted lines, they can be deleted. A MINUS SIGN will appear here. Click on the MINUS SIGN.

15. Click YES to delete the character.

MOVE CHARACTER FROM SERIES TO EPISODE

16. Click on the character to select it.

Use the DRAG AND DROP TO RENUMBER CHARACTER METHOD to move the charaacter from the SCRIPTED CHARACTERS section of the episode you want to add them to. This can be a bit finnicky.

17. Click ""

EXPORT CHARACTER BREAKDOWN REPORTS

18. Double click on the character to open the character details menu.

19. A list of all* the scenes they appear in will show up.

Alert: When you import the script, all scenes that a character has dialogue in will be listed here.

If they appear in scenes and do not have scripted dialogue in those scenes, you must add them to these scenes manually for them to appear here.

20. Click on REPORTS

21. Go to CHARACTER REPORTS and select BREAKDOWN REPORT

22. Click here.

23. Click "Open in Preview"

24. The character breakdown report will open as a PDF. If you have added BREAKDOWN ELEMENTS to a character, they will also show up here.

25. Click "Mac Series File Manual - Characters"

26. Click this cell

27. Click the remove button

28. Click "Yes"

29. Click this cell

30. Click the remove button

31. Click "Yes"

32. Click "Mac Series File Manual - Characters"
